A new action thriller has rocketed to number three on Netflix UK, despite being branded by viewers as 'easily the worst film ever'. A Line of Fire, released on Wednesday 1st April, has climbed the charts within hours, yet holds a dismal 3.7 rating on IMDb and a 50 per cent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film stars David A.R. White as former FBI agent Jack 'Cash' Conry, who left espionage after his wife's death to raise his two daughters. He is pulled back into action by his ex-partner's niece Jamie (Katrina Bowden), facing ruthless gangsters played by Jason Patric and Cuba Gooding Jr.
Viewers have been scathing. One Letterboxd user called it 'the worst action film I’ve seen', adding 'it looks so cheap and it’s filmed so badly it’s almost shocking'. Another described a death scene so bad they 'had to get someone to come and laugh at it with me'.
However, some have embraced the film as 'so bad it's good'. An IMDb reviewer wrote: 'This movie is so spectacularly, catastrophically awful that it transcends badness and becomes pure entertainment gold.' Another said: 'Invite your friends over to watch and, if they still talk to you after it's over, you hit the jackpot.'
For Netflix subscribers seeking mindless action, cheesy one-liners and wooden acting, A Line of Fire may be the perfect Friday night viewing.
