Netflix has confirmed that its upcoming Assassin's Creed television series will be set in Ancient Rome, with production now underway at Cinecittà Studios. The series, which tells an original story not featured in the video games, takes place in Rome in 64 AD during the reign of Emperor Nero, a year marked by the Great Fire of Rome.
The ensemble cast continues to grow, with four new recurring actors announced: Sandra Guldberg-Kampp, Youssef Kerkour, Mirren Mack, and Louis McCartney. They join previously announced leads Lola Petticrew and Toby Wallace, as well as Zachary Hart, Laura Marcus, Tanzyn Crawford, Nabhann Rizwan, Claes Bang, Noomi Rapace, Ramzy Bedia, Sean Harris, and Corrado Invernizzi.
The series is described as a high-octane thriller centred on the secret war between two shadowy factions: one seeking to control humanity's future through manipulation, the other fighting to preserve free will. The story will follow characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape destiny.
Roberto Patino and David Wiener serve as showrunners and executive producers alongside Gerard Guillemot, Margaret Boykin, Austin Dill, Genevieve Jones for Ubisoft Film & Television, and Matt O'Toole. The Assassin's Creed franchise has sold more than 230 million units worldwide, making it one of the best-selling video game series in history.
