Narvik: WWII film with 100% Rotten Tomatoes score

The historical war drama Narvik, directed by Erik Skjoldbjærg, has earned a rare 100% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film, now streaming on Netflix, depicts the Battles of Narvik that took place from 9 April to 8 June 1940.

A Pivotal WWII Turning Point

The two-month winter siege of the Norwegian port town saw a vital route for Adolf Hitler's military apparatus come under threat. This period is frequently regarded as Hitler's first tactical military setback.

One Rotten Tomatoes viewer said: "'Narvik' is a superb war film, and from a perspective that international audiences rarely see."

Audience and Critic Reception

The same viewer added: "I am a military historian and have walked the battlefields of Narvik. The movie captures almost every significant action of the campaign. Some occur off screen or in the distance (such as the sinking of Norge and Eidsvold, and the British and German fleet actions) but all the pieces are there."

They continued: "The cinematography is stunning, and even with its great ambition to tell the full story, the movie still manages to include the very human impact of the battle on the Norwegian civilians. Highly recommended."

Viewer Feedback and Streaming Availability

An IMDb reviewer said: "Great watch, don't listen to the haters." They added that the film "was done well and follows a family doing their thing during an invasion during WW2, trying to do what they must to survive." The reviewer noted the tension at the start is "unreal if you allow yourself to get sucked in."

One criticism raised was that character relationships could have been stronger, with the reviewer noting that "everything is sort of robotic how everyone acts," though they concluded they "really didn't have a problem with it." Narvik is currently available to stream on Netflix.
