King Charles Attends Festival of Remembrance After Caribbean Tour
King Charles at Festival of Remembrance After Caribbean Tour

King Charles III and Queen Camilla attended the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall this evening, days after returning from their Caribbean tour. The annual event, held in Kensington, saw the King and Queen joined by other senior working royals, including the Prince and Princess of Wales, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh, the Princess Royal, and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester.

Royal Attendance and Arrival

Prince George, who attended alongside his mother last year, did not join his parents at this year's event. William, who had skipped last year's service after returning from a trip to Brazil for his Earthshot Prize, was present this time. The crowd stood as the royal family entered to trumpet fanfare and took their seats in the royal box.

Prime Minister Andy Burnham and Marie-France van Heel took their seats before the royals arrived.

Commemorations and Performances

This year's festival marked significant anniversaries of operations in Bosnia, the end of the Gulf War, and the Iraq War. It placed places of remembrance at its heart, exploring how locations associated with those lost can hold profound personal meaning. From national memorials and familiar landmarks to gardens, football pitches, and quiet corners of everyday life, people from across the UK shared the places where they remember and feel close to loved ones who are no longer with them.

Those who served gave moving addresses on stage, alongside those who lost loved ones and the families who continue to live with the impact of military service. The night was hosted by journalist Clive Myrie, with performers including Alfie Boe, Tom Odell, and military bands.

Tradition and Upcoming Service

As is tradition, the festival ended with a two-minute silence as poppies fell in a tribute to all those who have served and sacrificed. The King will lead the nation in a two-minute silence at the National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in London tomorrow.
