US Remake of French Detective Series 'HIP' in the Works at ABC Signature

Disney Television Studios' ABC Signature has secured the rights to produce a US remake of the French detective series HIP (High Intellectual Potential), according to distributor Newen Connect. The deal covers adaptation of the original TF1 show, which has been sold to over 100 territories worldwide.

The original series, created by Alice Chegaray-Breugnot, Stéphane Carrié and Nicolas Jean, follows Morgane Alvaro, a gifted housekeeper who becomes a consultant for the serious crimes division of the police in Lille. The show stars Audrey Fleurot and Mehdi Nebbou, and was highlighted as a success story in last week's French TV export report by Unifrance.

Work has begun on adapting the scripts, though the showrunner, writing team and cast for the US version have yet to be announced. The remake joins a small number of US adaptations of French-language shows, including A&E's The Returned and Apple TV+'s Calls.

Rodolphe Buet, Managing Director of Newen Connect, said: 'HIP has been an incredible international success as a French-language title and has won over audiences worldwide, so we are not surprised that there is an appetite for an English-language adaptation. We were simply blown away by the enthusiasm of the ABC Signature creative teams and their sense of collaboration in meeting with the French producers.'
