Families looking for summer holiday entertainment can use Tesco Clubcard points to get a three-month Disney+ subscription for £9 in vouchers. The Standard With Ads plan is normally £5.99 a month, so three months would cost £18 without the Clubcard reward.
Shoppers earn one Clubcard point for every £1 spent at Tesco, and those points are usually worth 1p each when converted to vouchers. Spent with a Tesco reward partner such as Disney+, the vouchers are worth double their face value, meaning £9 vouchers cover a deal that would otherwise need £18 of points.
Earning enough points
Because every £1 spent earns a point, a shopper needs to have spent £900 at Tesco to build up £9 in vouchers. The average weekly food shop for a family of four in the UK is more than £100, so the points can be collected within a few weeks.
Standard Disney+ plan option
Clubcard members with a larger balance can spend £15 in vouchers on a Disney+ 3-month Standard Subscription. That plan usually costs £9.99 a month, removes adverts and allows downloads on up to 10 devices.
What to watch on Disney+
The service features films and shows from Disney, Pixar, Star Wars and Marvel. Recent titles for younger viewers include the live-action Lilo & Stitch and Zootopia 2, plus Marvel movies such as Thunderbolts and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. Classic family films on the platform include Mary Poppins, 101 Dalmatians, Aladdin, Moana and Wall-E.
For adults, recent big-screen releases include Avatar: Fire And Ash and The Devil Wears Prada 2. There are also binge-worthy series such as 24, 30 Rock and season five of The Bear.
How to redeem Clubcard points
Signing up for a Clubcard is free, and points can be converted into vouchers in seconds. The steps are:
- Sign in to the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app or go to 'My Clubcard account'.
- Select the button to turn your Clubcard points into vouchers.
- Select 'Request vouchers'.
- Your vouchers will appear in your Clubcard account in seconds.
- Browse the list of Tesco Clubcard reward partners and pick the partner you would like to spend your vouchers on.
- When you've completed your order look out for a confirmation email. A second email containing your Reward Partner code will arrive shortly after.
Shoppers need the full amount of points required on their Clubcard to use the offer. Other Tesco reward partners cover dining out, cinema trips, theme parks, zoo visits, holidays, household essentials and magazine subscriptions.
How Disney+ compares with rivals
Disney+ Standard With Ads costs £5.99 a month, matching the ad-supported Netflix plan. Netflix's standard tier without adverts is £12.99 a month. Apple TV+ is priced at £9.99 a month with no ad-supported alternative currently available. Amazon Prime Video costs £8.99 a month as part of an Amazon Prime membership, which also includes free express delivery and shopping discounts, and offers a 30-day free trial. Amazon requires an additional monthly fee for subscribers who want to remove adverts.
What subscribers say
Reviews on Trustpilot are mostly positive. One subscriber said: "I have been a subscriber since it launched in the UK and for me the experience has only got better since the introduction of Hulu. I find the catalogue is huge and there is always something for me and my family to watch."
Another said: "Very good selection, friendly support and easy to cancel if you need to. Very easy to navigate the site."
A third added: "Love it! All the classic Disney content we had when we were kids is now available for our kids."
One customer was less impressed with the ads, writing: "I like Disney+, it allows me to watch some of my favourite shows that I can't watch anywhere else. But what's with the ads? I know that a lot of streaming sites have ads, but come on, this is way too much."
Tesco's Clubcard offers are available on the Tesco website.
