The first season of George RR Martin's beloved Game of Thrones adaptation has concluded, and fans are already looking ahead to the next chapter. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2 has been confirmed for a 2027 release, though an exact date has not yet been announced. The series, which follows the adventures of Hedge Knight Dunk (Peter Claffey) and his squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), is expected to return early in the year, possibly in January.
Showrunner Ira Parker has provided updates on the production, confirming that season 2 will consist of six episodes. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, Parker noted that the scope may be smaller, and the budget remains the same—though inflation has increased costs. The second novella, The Sworn Sword, is set during a drought, requiring filming in a sunny location with scarce water, which adds expense.
Parker revealed that Egg will become more involved in the action, with Dexter Sol Ansell already training for the role. The story will see Dunk and Egg travel to The Reach, where they become embroiled in a dispute between Lady Rohanne Webber (the 'Red Widow') and Ser Eustace Osgrey. Most of the cast from season 1 is not expected to return, as the focus shifts to new characters from the novella.
No trailer has been released yet, but season 1 is available to stream on Sky Atlantic and NOW. Fans can revisit the events of the first season while awaiting more news on the follow-up.
