William 'would not change mind' even with Harry apology

Prince William is likely to still want “nothing to do” with Prince Harry even if the duke releases a public apology, a royal insider has said.

Apology Rumours

Over the last week, rumours have been swirling that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could issue a public statement apologising to the Royal Family for the tensions that have existed since they quit royal life. While this might aid their relationship with King Charles, who they reunited with at Highgrove last month, a royal insider said that it is unlikely to change the relationship between Harry and William.

Strained Brotherhood

This relationship between the brothers is currently nonexistent, with the pair reportedly not having spoken for some time. It is believed this is a result of Harry’s 2023 memoir Spare.

Talking about whether or not Harry issuing an apology would help the relationship he has with his older brother, former royal butler Grant Harrold said he does not think it will make a difference. Speaking on The Royals Uncensored podcast, he said: “Even with a public apology, I don’t see any way back now between the two of them.”

“From what I’m hearing from the inside, William is still adamant he doesn't want anything to do with his brother. The King, from what I understand, does want some sort of relationship especially with his grandchildren.”

Background and Context

While the former royal butler has not worked for the family since 2011, he spent much of his time working with King Charles, who was the Prince of Wales at the time, and his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry. At the time, the family was very close. This was before Harry quit royal life in 2020 and went on to criticise the monarchy in TV interviews, in his Netflix docuseries, Harry and Meghan, and in his memoir, Spare.

Harry has refrained from commenting on his royal relatives over the last year and, in 2025, said he wanted to reconcile with his loved ones. While Harry saw the King just last month, he has not seen his brother for some time, and William has not been involved in any meetings between Harry and their father.
