Prince William is no longer furious at Prince Harry, and that should terrify the duke, according to a new report. The Prince of Wales has apparently changed the way he thinks about his brother, with the anger that defined their rift now reportedly gone.
Writing for the Daily Express, reporter Adam Toms argues that William was right to treat his brother as he did. The prince, he says, had no option but to snub Harry, who had acted in a reckless and selfish manner towards his own family. To have met and embraced him after he tried to wound his closest relatives and the Firm he will soon head would have looked strange, the opinion piece argues.
The anger has gone
Journalist Rob Shuter has written that William is no longer angry at Harry. A source said: “The anger has gone. William spent years being furious. Catherine was deeply hurt.”
“But you cannot stay angry forever. Eventually, you stop fighting and simply stop caring,” the source added.
They continued: “Harry and Meghan can live 10 miles away or 5,000 miles away — it makes very little difference to William now. He has Catherine, his children, his work and his future. Harry is no longer occupying the enormous amount of emotional space he once did.”
A pathetic figure
This paints Harry as a pathetic figure, no longer living in royals’ heads rent-free, as younger people say of their irritating enemies. If the source is to be believed, the King’s second son is no longer important enough for the heir to the throne to worry about, and this will annoy him.
Harry still views himself as a “public figure” despite abandoning his working royal duties. William, meanwhile, is focusing on getting on with the job and preparing himself, and his children, to succeed Charles.
For the monarchy will survive and continue to be an important part of British public life long after Harry and Meghan’s moaning.
