Prince William and Hollywood star Tom Cruise have developed "quite a friendship" over the years, according to royal expert Richard Eden of the Daily Mail. Their bond is rooted in a mutual love for aviation, a passion they both openly share.
Public Appearances and Shared Interests
In 2022, the Prince and Princess of Wales attended the premiere of Cruise's film Top Gun: Maverick, where the actor was photographed shaking hands with Kate and sharing a joke with William. The duo were later spotted together in February 2024 at London's Air Ambulance Charity Gala Dinner, laughing and posing for photos.
Cruise once said of their connection: "We have a lot in common. We both love England and we're both aviators, we both love flying."
William's Light-Hearted Jibe at the Gala
At the gala, William addressed the audience, expressing gratitude for support received by his wife Catherine and father King Charles following their cancer diagnoses. He joked: "It's fair to say the past few weeks have had a rather medical focus. So I thought I'd come to an air ambulance function to get away from it all!"
He then teased Cruise, referencing the actor's high-octane film stunts, and thanked him for supporting the charity's appeal for new aircraft.
Cruise's Support for William's Projects
In 2025, Cruise lent his support to William's Earthshot Prize by sending a surprise video message played during the awards ceremony in Rio de Janeiro, where he called the prince a "dear friend."
Long-Standing Royal Connections
Cruise's ties to the Royal Family date back to the early 1990s. He was photographed meeting Princess Diana and later attended her funeral in 1997. In 2017, he was pictured in conversation with Prince Philip at the 75th anniversary of the Outward Bound Trust at Buckingham Palace.
