William and Harry face Diana anniversary choice
William and Harry face Diana anniversary choice

Prince William and Prince Harry have not been on talking terms for some time, with tensions between the brothers dating back years. The final straw in their relationship is believed to have been the publication of Harry's memoir Spare in 2023, which detailed an argument he had with William.

Estrangement and Anniversary

Since then, the brothers have hardly crossed paths, and reports suggest they no longer speak to each other. However, this could change next year, which marks the 30th anniversary of their mother Princess Diana's death. Many royal fans are waiting to see what will happen.

Writing in The i Paper, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond said: "The word is that Prince Harry is planning to make more frequent trips back to the UK. He wants more of a foothold here and less drama. It's a novel idea because Harry and drama have walked hand in hand for the past few years."

Flashpoint Ahead

Bond added: "Much of that has been of his own making, but next year is going to be a flashpoint because it will be the 30th anniversary of the death of his mother, Diana, Princess of Wales. All eyes will be on two warring brothers. Will William and Harry finally stand side by side at such a poignant memorial event – several are expected to be organised by charity The Diana Award – or will their bitter estrangement continue? Either scenario will be a drama."

Separate Memorials

Both Harry and William feel strongly about helping keep their mother's memory and legacy alive, but they have not attended any events together in aid of their mother for some time, instead attending events separately. It is not yet known how the brothers will plan to mark the anniversary of Diana's death, which happened in Paris in 1997.

It is also not known if the brothers will reunite before this, with Harry expected to make more and more visits to the UK over the next few years.
