Westlife dedicated their hit song 'You Raise Me Up' to Danielle O'Keane during their concert at Newcastle's Utilita Arena on Saturday night, October 3. The mother-of-two died in hospital following a rickshaw crash in Dublin after attending one of the band's concerts.
Tragic accident after Dublin gig
Danielle, 37, from Saval in Newry, Co Down, suffered a "life ending brain injury" after a crash on North Wall Quay, Dublin, around 11pm on Saturday, September 26. She was taken to Mater Misericordiae University Hospital and had been in intensive care on a ventilator.
On the night of the crash, Danielle was travelling to Dublin city centre with friends after watching Westlife at the 3Arena when the rickshaw she was in struck a curb. She died on Thursday, October 1, reports the Irish Mirror.
Emotional tribute at Newcastle show
Her husband, Dave O'Keane, posted a single broken heart on social media on Friday. He also shared the funeral notice by Charles Digney and Sons Funeral Directors, which described Danielle O'Keane, née Mullan, as the "much loved wife of Dave and dear mother of Caolán and Cillian."
The notice continued: "Beloved daughter of Michael and Pauline, and dear sister of Barry and her twin Sean. Sacred Heart of Jesus have mercy on her soul."
During the Newcastle performance, singer Shane Filan said: "This song is sung tonight to everybody who has lost somebody they love and for Danielle." He added: "We are going to celebrate them all up here, right now," as drones with red lights shone above the stage.
The emotional performance was captured on video by a fan and shared online, where Westlife supporters have been paying their respects to Danielle. It was also shared by her husband.
