King Charles hosted a private family dinner at the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh on Tuesday night, but two senior royals were notably absent. According to reports from The Daily Mail, the monarch dined with Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward during Royal Week, when the King and Queen stay in Scotland for engagements.
Missing Royals: Princess Catherine and Duchess Sophie
Princess Catherine did not attend the dinner, remaining at the family's Windsor home with Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis. Duchess Sophie, wife of Prince Edward, was also absent; her reasons are unknown, and she also missed Tuesday's garden party that Edward attended.
Details of the Dinner
The dinner was not publicly confirmed by the King. All five attendees had been in or near Scotland for engagements. Prince William, known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland, traveled over 100 miles from Aberdeen, where he visited a Homewards initiative for its third anniversary, to Edinburgh for the meal and overnight stay. On Wednesday, William was scheduled to join the King, Queen, and Prince Edward for the Order of the Thistle service at St Giles's Cathedral.
No Comment from Buckingham Palace
Buckingham Palace has not commented on the dinner. The event coincides with reports about Prince Harry's upcoming UK visit, which may be altered due to security concerns. Harry reportedly wants armed police protection for his family, which he believes is necessary for their safety.
