Former White House advisor Anthony Scaramucci believes Donald Trump's angry reaction at a White House dinner showed his true feelings towards First Lady Melania Trump. The incident occurred when Scaramucci and Melania were seated next to each other during a dinner in the Blue Room.
Trump's Outburst Over Seating
Scaramucci, who served as Trump's Communications Director for 11 days in 2017, told the Daily Beast's podcast that he had always maintained a "good rapport" with Melania. This seemed to irk Trump, who became visibly upset when he saw them sitting together.
"For some reason I was sitting next to Melania. And he got pissed at me," Scaramucci said. "He's a taller guy than me. And he looked over and looked down at me and he's like: 'Why are you sitting next to my wife?'"
Scaramucci's Response
Scaramucci responded: "And I looked at him and I'm like: 'I have no idea. First of all, do you think I made the place cards? I have no idea why I'm sitting next to your wife.' And I think it unnerves him when people have a good rapport with her."
Once Trump realized Scaramucci had no part in the seating arrangements, he settled down.
Melania's Public Appearances
The First Lady's absence from her husband's side has become increasingly evident. According to the Daily Beast, Melania has made only 38 public appearances in the first seven months of 2026, and just 47 times in 2025 following the inauguration on January 20. This contrasts sharply with predecessors like Michelle Obama, Jill Biden, and Laura Bush.
Scaramucci's Background
Scaramucci initially criticized Trump before supporting him in the 2016 election, joining his campaign's finance committee and transition team. He then had a brief stint as Communications Director in July 2017, but was dismissed within days after giving an interview to The New Yorker that he thought was off the record.
He is now a vocal opponent of Trump, backing Joe Biden in 2020 and Kamala Harris in 2024. Speaking about Melania, he said: "She was always very nice to me. I always liked her, my wife liked her. She was down to earth, classy."
Scaramucci has previously alleged that Melania privately wished Kamala Harris would defeat Trump in the 2024 election, and even suggested she "hated" her husband.
