Tommy Fury has spoken about growing up without his father, John Fury, while he was in prison, during a question on their BBC podcast about who is the better dad between the pair.
Tommy has joined forces with his dad for a new BBC video podcast called What The Fury?!, available on BBC iPlayer and described by the broadcaster as the “ultimate showdown”. The 10-part series sees the father and son “sit down face to face to clash over the biggest themes and craziest phenomena of modern life.” It follows Tommy’s two-series documentary Tommy: The Good. The Bad. The Fury.
Prison Sentence and Family Support
In a clip shared on Instagram, Tommy and John answered a listener’s question about who is the better dad. John, also father of former heavyweight champion Tyson, served four years of an 11-year prison sentence after being convicted in 2011 for wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Tommy said: “I don't think I come anywhere close to what you've done as a dad. I can answer that one very confidently because of what you did for us, going through prison sentences, and then while you were away doing that, we still had food on the table every night, all the bills were paid, the roof was over our heads, [we] still had birthdays and Christmases.” He added: “And I think to do all that and not be there, I don't think a lot of men could do it.”
John’s Praise for Tommy’s Parenting
John replied: “Thank for the gratitude,” before praising Tommy’s relationship with his daughter, Bambi. The podcast appears to have been recorded before the birth of Tommy’s second child, Midas, with partner Molly-Mae Hague.
John said: “Well, let me tell you this, there's things you do that's better than I could ever do. I watch how you go on with that baby, you're there for every need possible. I was only a provider and a guidance. Your mother [did the] bulk of the work. You do a lot of hands-on stuff for that baby I couldn't even imagine doing. I've got to give you credit for it, son. You jumped in at the deep end. You've done a marvellous job.”
Second Child Arrival
Tommy and Molly-Mae, who met on Love Island in 2019, welcomed their second child earlier this month, three years after daughter Bambi. They announced their son’s arrival on June 3 with a joint Instagram post, later confirming his name, Midas, when Tommy returned to the boxing ring to face former world’s strongest man Eddie Hall at the AO Arena.
