Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have made a rare official mention of their children, Archie and Lilibet, in a statement about their charitable organisation. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that after five years, the Archewell Foundation would be renamed Archewell Philanthropies, with the company stating: “This charitable entity allows the couple and their children to expand upon their global philanthropic endeavours as a family.”
The inclusion of their children in the statement has led royal experts to suggest that the Sussexes plan to involve Archie, 6, and Lilibet, 4, in future philanthropic work. However, a friend of Prince Harry reportedly expressed confusion, given the couple's previous insistence on keeping their children shielded from the limelight. According to the Daily Mail, the friend said: “I am genuinely confused. Harry and Meghan were always so insistent that their children would be able to make their own way in life without the pressure of expectations or titles.”
The announcement came just days after the children featured in the Sussexes' annual Christmas card photo, which offered the clearest image yet of Archie and Lilibet. The family also released a video showing the children helping their parents bake cookies for a local charity. Since returning to Instagram in 2025, Meghan has frequently shared images of her children but has obscured their faces to protect their privacy.
Harry and Meghan have increasingly spoken about their children's future, particularly regarding online safety. During a panel for World Mental Health Day in New York City in October, Meghan said: “Our children, Archie and Lili, are just six and four years old. Luckily still too young for social media, but we know that day is coming. Like so many parents, we think constantly about how to embrace technology's benefits, while safeguarding against its dangers.”
