Strictly's Kai and Delta future addressed after injury exit

Strictly Come Dancing professional Jowita has said Delta Goodrem will be “back stronger than ever” after the Australian singer was forced to pull out of this weekend's Icons Week with a rib injury.

Delta was taken to A&E last weekend after suffering the injury, and on Monday night's (October 12) It Takes Two she revealed that doctors had advised her to rest to allow proper healing. The BBC then confirmed she would sit out Icons Week and receive a “bye” through to the following week.

BBC statement on Delta's absence

In an official statement, the BBC said: “Due to injury, Delta Goodrem has been advised by doctors to rest and, as a result, will not dance on this weekend's Strictly Come Dancing.” The statement added that it was “hoped” she and her professional partner Kai Widdrington would make their comeback.

On Wednesday (October 15), Delta's Strictly colleagues Lawrence Robb and Jowita spoke about her prospects on the show, reports Wales Online.

Co-stars share their thoughts

When asked whether he had contacted Delta, Lawrence said: “I don't know what she's done. They've not really told us. I've sent her a well-wishes text, and I hope you get better and I hope to see her next week. Yeah, because she's so good. I mean, we had Dani back this year, and of course, last year she got an injury.”

Ben Shephard replied: “It's not without its tribulations, this show, is it?” Pro dancer Jowita added: “Yeah, I mean, it always takes just a second because, you know, they work so hard. We rehearse eight hours a day, nonstop. So, the body is tired, the mind is tired, and sometimes it's just one silly thing, and it can lead to some major issue.”

Delta's strong start on the leaderboard

Speaking about Delta, Jowita continued: “But I do believe that she will be fine next week. She is a fighter, and we will really miss her on that floor, because I think everyone would like to do the icons, because that's iconic. But I think she'll be back stronger than ever.”

Delta and Kai have led the leaderboard for the past fortnight, earning 30 points for their American Smooth in week two, which was Movie Week. In the series premiere, they scored 29 points for their samba, finishing just behind John and Katya.

Strictly Come Dancing airs every weekend on BBC One and iPlayer.
