The Princess of Wales once left Prince William laughing after she was mistaken for his assistant during a royal engagement. The incident occurred several years ago at the Shire Hall Care Home in Cardiff, where resident Joan Drew-Smith pointed at Kate and asked William: 'Is that your assistant?'
Kate responded with a deft touch, laughing and saying to William: 'Well, I am your assistant. I have been for a long time!' The couple are currently taking a break from royal duties while Kate recovers from abdominal surgery. She was admitted to the London Clinic almost two weeks ago and has since returned to her home in Windsor.
Kensington Palace confirmed Kate's condition is not cancer-related and that she wishes her medical information to remain private. She is not expected to return to official duties until after Easter. William temporarily stepped back from engagements to care for his wife and their three children, but is expected to resume duties once her recovery settles.
The couple live in Adelaide Cottage in Windsor's Home Park and are supported by staff, including nanny Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo. Kate's parents and siblings are also expected to help during her recovery. Among the engagements she will miss are the Baftas, the Commonwealth Day service, and the St David's Day Parade.
Aides say the princess will be working behind the scenes on early years projects while recovering. Official overseas tours for the couple are off the table for now. Kate will benefit from the London Clinic's aftercare, including physiotherapy and video check-ups.
