The Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, has not been invited to King Charles III's coronation on 6 May, sources have confirmed. It is understood there is no 'ill will' from the duchess, who reportedly did not expect to attend.
Ferguson, 63, was married to Prince Andrew, the King's younger brother, until their divorce in 1996. Despite the divorce, she has maintained good relations with the royal family, including spending Easter with them this year. She and Andrew share a home at Royal Lodge in Windsor.
Prince Andrew is expected to be among the more than 2,000 guests at Westminster Abbey, though his role remains uncertain as he is no longer a working royal. The duchess's absence is not seen as a snub, given her continued positive ties with the family.
Other notable attendees include Prince Harry, who confirmed he will travel from the US without his wife Meghan, as well as President Macron of France, US first lady Jill Biden, and Crown Prince Akishino of Japan. The ceremony will also feature 450 charity and community representatives.
A YouGov poll of over 3,000 adults found that 35% 'do not care very much' about the coronation, and 29% 'do not care at all', with apathy highest among 18- to 24-year-olds, 75% of whom expressed disinterest.
