Royals named after Queen Elizabeth II: full list

Queen Elizabeth II's name continues to be honoured by many of her relatives, who have incorporated it into their own names or those of their children. The late Queen, who reigned for over 70 years, was herself named after her mother, Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon. Her middle names, Alexandra and Mary, were tributes to her great-grandmother and grandmother respectively.

Queen's name choice

When she ascended to the throne in 1952, Queen Elizabeth II was asked which name she would reign under. Some monarchs have chosen a different regnal name, but the Queen famously replied: “My own, of course.”

Princess Charlotte and Princess Beatrice

Princess Charlotte's middle name is Elizabeth, a tribute to her late great-grandmother. Prince William has spoken of how his grandmother became more important to him as he grew older. Princess Beatrice, eldest daughter of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson, also carries Elizabeth as a middle name, alongside Mary. She was born on 8 August 1988.

Isla Elizabeth Phillips

Isla Elizabeth Phillips, born on 29 March 2012, is the second child of Peter and Autumn Phillips. A palace statement at the time said the Queen and her family were “delighted” by her arrival, though it has never been officially confirmed that her middle name honours the Queen.
