Prince Harry surprised fans at the Invictus Games in Whistler, Canada, by turning up unannounced at the alpine skiing medal ceremony. The royal had been expected to take a personal day to unwind and enjoy the resort at his own pace.
He presided over the presentation alongside Invictus Games CEO Scott Moore, before later heading to a local bar and grill where officials were holding a private event for the Games.
The appearance came as his wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, returned home to California on Tuesday to look after the couple's two children, Archie, five, and Lilibet, three. Meghan has shared photographs of Invictus-themed goodies she brought back for the children, including green-coloured shirts with their names on, a teddy and sweets. In an Instagram post, she wrote: "A taste of Canada and The Invictus Games for our little ones! Cheering you on from home!"
The duchess also shared videos of her time in Whistler, including a clip of her and Harry walking hand in hand, bundled up against the cold, and another of her tubing down a snowy slope after being encouraged by Harry to let go.
It is understood the couple will spend Valentine's Day apart, with a source saying this was always planned: "Meghan is going home to be with her children. This is Prince Harry's event and she is there to support him."
