The Princess of Wales is set to illuminate Westminster Abbey with festive spirit next week, hosting her highly anticipated annual Together At Christmas carol service. This glittering occasion, supported by a host of famous faces, officially kicks off the Royal Family's seasonal celebrations.
A Celebration of Community and Kindness
Scheduled for Friday, the service is spearheaded by the Princess herself and backed by The Royal Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the Prince and Princess of Wales. The event is billed as a heartfelt celebration of love in all its forms, honouring the bonds within families, the strength of friendships, and the powerful moments of kindness that connect communities and even strangers.
The guest list of 1,600 people will notably include individuals from across the UK who have dedicated their time to supporting others. This includes volunteers, community initiative leaders, and those who have simply offered a helping hand to people around them.
Star-Studded Readings and Performances
The service will feature an array of talent. Academy Award-winner Kate Winslet, acclaimed actor Chiwetel Ejiofor, and West End star Hannah Waddingham are all slated to deliver poignant readings.
The musical programme promises to be equally spectacular, with performances from Hannah Waddingham, Dan Smith of the band Bastille, singer-songwriter Griff, Katie Melua, and the Cornish folk group Fisherman's Friends. The esteemed Westminster Abbey choir will lead the congregation in singing classic carols, and young performers from North London's Platinum Performing Arts will also take to the stage.
Royal and Ceremonial Touches
The Royal Family will be out in force to support the Princess. Prince William will deliver a reading during the service, and the couple are expected to be joined by their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.
Adding to the ceremonial atmosphere, candles will be lit by people the Waleses have met in recent years and those involved in the service itself. The abbey will be adorned with beautiful wreaths donated by The Royal Horticultural Society and florist Simon Lycett. In a charming collaborative effort, these wreaths were created with schoolchildren and supporters, including baking legend Dame Mary Berry and comedian Tom Allen.
The service will be broadcast on ITV on Christmas Eve, with a repeat showing on the morning of Christmas Day, allowing the entire nation to share in the festive celebration.
