Queen Camilla will deliberately avoid Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during their upcoming visit to the United Kingdom this July, according to reports. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are expected to stay at Buckingham Palace as part of their first return to the UK in four years, but the Queen Consort is reportedly unconvinced by their re-emergence into the royal spotlight.
Camilla's Plans to Stay Away
Speaking on the Daily Expresso show, columnist Carole Malone said: “Camilla is not going to be around when they [the Sussexes] arrive. I don’t blame her, because Harry slagged her off big time.” The Times reported that Her Majesty is “unlikely to get involved” with any conversations with Harry and Meghan and plans to remain at her Ray Mill home in Wiltshire during their stay.
Fallout from Harry's Memoir
The decision stems from Prince Harry's 2023 memoir Spare, in which he described his stepmother as “evil” and a “villain” who left “bodies in the street.” He also accused her of playing a “long game, a campaign aimed at marriage and eventually the Crown.” The Mail on Sunday reported that these comments “hurt” the Queen.
Carole Malone added: “He used his entire childhood and his relationships with all of his family, and he sold them to people. He sold them to the highest bidder. That book is the most hideous thing you can do to betray your family in that way.”
Harry and Meghan's Return
Harry, Meghan, and their children Archie and Lilibet are set to return to the UK in July for the first time since stepping down as senior royals in 2020. The visit marks a significant moment in their strained relationship with the royal family, though Camilla's absence suggests lingering tensions remain.
