A royal historian has said that Princess Catherine's success and likability come down to one thing: characteristics she shares with the late Queen Elizabeth.
Catherine Mayer, author of Divide and Rule: Royal Women and Their Battles, says that Kate's choice to follow the Queen's model while adapting it to her personality and needs has been key to her success.
Following the Queen's model
Mayer said: "There is some truth to the idea that Kate follows a model quite close to Elizabeth’s in terms of letting images do the talking rather than expressing herself more verbally and freely."
She added: "That melds more easily with an institution that is meant to stay out of party politics and unite the populations it represents across 15 realms, rather than being divisive."
The royal expert, however, emphasised that following the late Queen's model "doesn't mean that other models are automatically wrong".
Modern challenges
Following Queen Elizabeth, who served as monarch for 70 years, is "challenging," and Kate certainly faces some modern challenges.
Mayer explained that "scrutiny is worse for royal women, because it is their job to be seen".
Despite this, Kate has become one of the most prominent figures in the firm, gaining worldwide popularity and honour, similar to Queen Elizabeth.
The Princess of Wales is particularly recognised globally for everything from her fashion to her community work, often praised by royal biographers and experts.
