Name announcement on Instagram

Sharing a new picture of her daughter, Eugenie wrote: "2 weeks ago today we welcomed our girl to the world. And since then we've had the most special, cosy and love-filled time. We are so happy to share Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. Named after three people we love and admire past and present, including her Great-Grandmother who we hold close in our hearts. Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home. Augie and Ernie are already the best big brothers."

Birth details and family

Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank, are already parents to two sons, August and Ernest Brooksbank. They welcomed their daughter earlier this month on August 3 at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. When she announced the birth the following day on August 4, Eugenie shared a photograph of the baby in a pink babygrow holding Jack's finger. She wrote: "Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!! We are beyond in love with our girlie."

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Princess Eugenie gave birth to a daughter at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. A statement from the Palace read: "Her Royal Highness Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank are delighted to announce the safe arrival of their daughter, born on Monday, 3rd August 2026, at 6.20pm, at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal. The baby was born weighing 6 pounds 9 ounces. Their Majesties The King and Queen and other members of The Royal Family were delighted to be informed of the news."

Family background and traditions

The Brooksbank family currently split their time between the UK and Portugal, as Jack works with property tycoon Mike Meldman on a luxury coastal development, the CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club. While she was not pictured, it has been reported that Sarah Ferguson, who has gone into hiding since details of her connection to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein emerged in the Epstein Files, travelled to Portugal to support her youngest daughter and meet her newest grandchild.

Keeping to her mother's favoured tradition of naming her daughters after relatives of Queen Victoria, Eugenie followed suit with her two sons, who arrived in 2021 and 2023. Princess Beatrice was the name of the Queen’s youngest daughter with Prince Albert, and all three of Eugenie’s names (Eugenie Victoria Helena) follow the same trend. The name August was one of the names of Queen Victoria’s husband, Prince Albert, as he was christened as Franz Albert August Karl Emanuel. The same went for Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank's arrival in 2023. Ernest was the first name of Queen Victoria's brother-in-law, Duke Ernest of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha. Ernest was also named after Queen Elizabeth II's grandfather, King George V, and Jack's late father, Jack. Ronnie, meanwhile, was the nickname of Sarah Ferguson's father, Major Ronald Ferguson.
