As temperatures drop and the clocks go back, Netflix offers a fresh batch of thrillers perfect for cosy indoor viewing. With Halloween approaching, these four movies and series deliver suspense without full-blown horror.
Unabomber (2026)
Jacob Tremblay, known for his role in Room, takes on a darker character in this Netflix thriller based on the true story of domestic terrorist Ted Kaczynski. Tremblay plays Kaczynski from age 16, when he entered Harvard University, tracing his troubled early adulthood and radicalisation that led to a 17-year bombing campaign killing three people.
The cast includes Russell Crowe and Shailene Woodley. The film has drawn comparisons to Netflix's Adolescence.
Animals (2026)
Ben Affleck returns to Netflix after the success of The Rip with Animals, an action thriller reminiscent of Mel Gibson's 1990s film Ransom. Affleck directs and stars as Mark Kimball, an LA mayoral candidate whose son is kidnapped. He and his wife Abigail, played by Kerry Washington, resort to extreme measures, uncovering dark secrets and deception.
The Trap (2026)
For those preferring a series, German thriller The Trap is based on Melanie Rabbe's 2015 novel. Friederike Becht stars as Lisa Konrad, a writer who hasn't left her house for a decade after her sister's murder. When she sees a journalist on TV she believes is the killer, she devises a risky plan to prove it and seek justice.
The Whisper Man (2026)
Based on Alex North's novel, The Whisper Man follows a recently widowed novelist, played by Adam Scott, who moves with his young son to the town of Garretton. The town is plagued by child abductions linked to a serial killer. When his own son goes missing, he teams up with his estranged father, played by Robert de Niro, to find him.
