Princess Beatrice Turns 38: Her Best Royal Moments

Princess Beatrice is celebrating her 38th birthday today, August 8, 2026. Although not a working royal, she is expected to be spoiled by her husband, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and their two daughters, Sienna and Athena. Her stepson, Wolfie, from Edoardo's first marriage, may also join the family celebrations. Her birthday plans are not yet known.

Early Life and Family

Born on August 8, 1988, at 8:18pm at the Portland Hospital, Beatrice is the eldest daughter of Sarah Ferguson and Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor. Her parents were reportedly delighted with their first child. Andrew, then a prince, was present at the birth. Beatrice was christened later that year at The Chapel Royal, St James's Palace.

A Close Bond with the Queen

Beatrice was known to be close to her grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, until her death in 2022. She once said she was "very lucky" to have the late Queen as her grandmother. After the Queen's death, Beatrice and her sister, Princess Eugenie, released a joint statement: "Our dearest Grannie. We've not been able to put much into words since you left us all. There have been tears and laughter, silences and chatter, hugs and loneliness, and a collective loss for you, our beloved Queen, and our beloved Grannie. We, like many, thought you'd be here forever. And we all miss you terribly. We're so happy you're back with Grandpa. Goodbye dear Grannie, it has been the honour of our lives to have been your granddaughters and we're so very proud of you. We know that dear Uncle Charles, the King, will continue to lead in your example as he too has dedicated his life to service. God save the King. With our love, Beatrice and Eugenie."

Overcoming School Challenges

Beatrice has been open about her struggles with dyslexia. In an interview with the charity Made By Dyslexia, she said: "The reason why I am so passionate about dyslexia is that, being a dyslexic person myself, I feel like I really understand that we have a responsibility to change the narrative around what we are delivering to young people in the classroom. I was very lucky, I got to go to a school that was very nurturing and very supportive. But, I would describe the actual day-to-day learning side of things as very challenging."

Wedding During the Pandemic

Beatrice married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020 during the Covid-19 pandemic. The guest list was small, and the wedding was not televised. The late Queen lent Beatrice the Queen Mary Fringe Tiara, which she herself had worn on her wedding day in 1947. The Queen also loaned Beatrice a Norman Hartnell dress that she had previously worn for an engagement.

Life as a Mother

Beatrice has two daughters, Sienna, four, and Athena, one. She is also a stepmother to Wolfie. While Beatrice has been seen publicly with her children, only Wolfie has made official royal appearances, such as at Princess Catherine's Christmas carol service and on the Christmas Day walkabout. Her daughters may join in these traditions when they are older.
