Princess Anne, often perceived as a workaholic due to her tireless royal duties, is actually one of the most relaxed members of the Royal Family, according to a former royal butler.
Former Butler's Insight
Grant Harrold, who served as butler at Highgrove House, said that the Princess Royal is “laid back” and one of the more relaxed members of the family. Speaking about her appearance at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, he noted it was “nice to see her more laid back.”
“We usually see her dressed to impress and in work mode, but she has really stripped it back,” Harrold said. “I think she is starting to lean into the new era of the Royal Family and the modern way they are doing things,” he added.
Not to Be Underestimated
Harrold cautioned that despite her relaxed demeanor, she is not to be underestimated. “But while she is often in work mode, she is also one of the most laid-back members of the Royal Family, but don’t let that catch you off guard. She is very much like her father—she will catch you out,” he said.
Princess Anne is one of the most popular royals, regularly attracting large crowds. In a past TV interview, she stated she would have to “work even harder on the farm” if she stopped being a royal. She also revealed that “out of necessity” she qualified as a “heavy goods vehicle driver.”
Hard Work and Recognition
She has consistently topped the list of the hardest-working royals, attending more public engagements than her relatives. In 2022, she attended 214 public engagements, far surpassing King Charles, who came in second with 181.
In 1990, Princess Anne was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize by President Kaunda of Zambia for her extensive work with Save the Children over two decades, having traveled to over 26 countries and overseen life-changing projects.
