Prince William's seven-word response to Meghan Markle's allegations about the Royal Family has been described as revealing 'molten anger' towards his sister-in-law. The comment came five years ago after Meghan claimed senior royals had raised concerns about 'how dark' Prince Archie's skin might be.
During a public outing, William told a journalist: 'We're very much not a racist family.' Daily Mirror Associate Editor Kevin Maguire said on Channel 5's Royal Heirs and Spares: Rivalry & Resentment: 'That moment when William said the Royal Family isn't racist, that revealed molten anger. He also appreciated the harm and the damage that the accusation had made for that family.'
The allegations emerged during Meghan and Prince Harry's 2021 interview with Oprah Winfrey, shortly after they stepped back as senior royals and moved to California. Buckingham Palace described the claims as 'concerning' but said the issue would be addressed privately.
William acknowledged at the time that he had not yet discussed the matter with his brother but planned to. The relationship between the brothers has since deteriorated, with Harry claiming in his memoir Spare that William physically attacked him during a 2019 argument.
In June, William appeared to take a swipe at Harry during a visit to the Army Air Corps in Suffolk, joking about family time. Harry has expressed a desire for reconciliation, saying: 'I don't know how much longer my father has. It would be nice to reconcile.'
