Royal enthusiasts have been granted an exclusive first look inside the new Windsor residence of the Prince and Princess of Wales, a significant departure from tradition for the future king. Prince William inadvertently showcased the opulent interiors of the Grade II-listed Forest Lodge in a recent video message, marking the first public glimpse of the family's highly anticipated 'forever home'.
A Royal Reveal
While the Prince's message focused on the importance of reflecting on Armistice Day, the background of the video captured equal attention. Filmed within Forest Lodge, the footage shows William standing before a large door with intricate gold detailing and sumptuous crimson curtains. Framed photographs adorn the walls, hinting at the personal touches the family has added since their move in early November.
The Wales family, including Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, relocated to the eight-bedroom mansion on the Windsor estate just weeks ago, following a three-year stay at the nearby Adelaide Cottage. It is understood the move was strategically timed for the October half-term break, allowing the children to settle in before Bonfire Night.
An English Country House Aesthetic
According to interior design expert Benji Lewis, who spoke with the Daily Mail, William and Kate have cultivated an "English, elegant grand country house" style for their new abode. The rooms are described as breezy and spacious with lofty, high ceilings and beautiful tall windows that flood the spaces with natural light.
Princess Kate is believed to have taken a very hands-on approach to the decoration, applying her keen eye for interior design to create a "contemporary classic" and "tastefully discreet" atmosphere. Lewis suggested the Princess likely enjoyed the process of researching fabrics and scheming the designs herself, finding it a welcome distraction from her official duties.
The couple have reportedly achieved a balance between calm and contemporary by blending neutral tones like ivory and taupe. For the luxurious soft furnishings, they turned to the esteemed British brand Marina Mill, which specialises in hand-designed fabrics costing over £100 per metre. The mill, which Kate visited in September, counts Buckingham Palace and Clarence House among its many royal clients.
A Home for the Future
In a move that signals a modernisation of royal living arrangements, the Wales family reportedly intends to remain at Forest Lodge indefinitely, even when Prince William eventually ascends the throne. This would mark a significant break from established tradition, solidifying the property's status as their permanent family base.
The extensive renovations overseen by William and Kate before their November move have clearly been executed with both elegance and family practicality in mind, creating a sophisticated yet comfortable home for their three young children. This first, unexpected glimpse has finally satisfied public curiosity about the royal couple's most personal project to date.
