Prince Harry's upcoming UK return could offer a genuine opportunity to meet his elder brother, Prince William. A meeting could be the first step towards repairing one of the most talked-about family feuds in the world.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be spending extended periods of time in the UK, starting later this month. Whether one standalone meeting leads to a breakthrough is, however, another matter entirely.
Trust must be rebuilt
After a bombardment of memoirs, interviews, and years of trust being shattered, a single conversation won't instantly heal their wounds. However, if both brothers step up, it could be the stepping stone they so desperately need to repair their once-close bond.
Although William appears to have no desire to repair the relationship, Harry's next visit - whenever this may be – could be the ideal moment. Despite this, there is one crucial caveat: a meeting can take place only if two conditions are met on both sides.
Absolute radio silence
First: absolute radio silence. When Harry quietly met King Charles last month with Archie and Lilibet, a brief statement confirmed the visit — nothing more. Zero details were leaked, and nothing has emerged since. A meeting with his brother would demand the exact same conditions. No anonymous briefings, no insider leaks and no lingering commentary. If a single detail escapes, the deal is off.
What happens behind closed doors has to stay behind closed doors. You cannot rebuild trust any other way. Keeping the meeting private would remove pressure and allow the two of them to speak as brothers rather than as two of the world's most scrutinised figures.
Only the brothers in the room
Second, and just as critical: the room must contain only William and Harry. Leave King Charles, Princess Catherine, Meghan Markle and royal advisers at the door.
If there’s any hope of a thaw in the rift, the brothers need to speak without the burden of representing their wives, their father, or the Crown. It will need to be an honest conversation, not a summit involving the entire family.
