Prince Harry is set to return to the UK later this month for the WellChild Awards, but sources say his efforts to mend family relations are already fraught with difficulty. The Duke of Sussex has reportedly instructed his aides to arrange private meetings with King Charles, Prince William, and Kate Middleton in an attempt to resolve the long-running feud.
Palace insiders have expressed caution, citing tight schedules due to the family's gathering at Balmoral and concerns about what Harry might expect. 'There's no appetite for confrontation,' a source told Closer. 'But equally, they know Harry is determined – and that makes things tricky.'
Senior aides are reportedly wrangling over the structure of any potential meeting, including whether Meghan Markle should attend and how much time Harry might have with his father. The source added, 'It's like trying to organise a political summit. Every side has conditions, and unless they can all agree, it risks falling apart completely.'
One key sticking point is whether Harry will meet with William and Kate. Harry has long seen Kate as a bridge between him and his brother, and believes winning her over could help resolve the rift. However, Meghan is said to have no interest in joining the trip, feeling it would 'reopen old wounds' and put her in the firing line.
The couple's strained relations date back to their departure from royal duties in 2020, followed by several public allegations against the royal family. In his memoir Spare, Harry claimed he had a heated row with his father and brother, and that William knocked him to the floor during an argument. He also alleged that Kate made Meghan cry before their wedding.
Despite Harry's desire for reconciliation, the palace remains wary. A proposed 'prenup-style' deal to limit future disclosures was reportedly rejected by Meghan. With her refusal to attend and palace hesitation, the chances of a successful meeting appear slim, leaving Harry determined but facing an uphill battle.
