Prince William was 'right' to warn his brother Prince Harry about rushing into marriage with Meghan Markle, a royal historian has said. William reportedly advised Harry in 2017 to slow down and not marry Meghan so soon, given the complexities of joining the royal family.
Royal historian Marlene Koenig said Meghan appeared uncomfortable with royal rules, reinforcing William's counsel. 'Meghan was not comfortable with all the rules. William was right to advise Harry to take his time and not rush into marriage,' she told the Mirror.
Koenig noted that the royal family learned from past marital failures, including Charles and Diana and Andrew and Sarah, where couples did not know each other well before marriage. She contrasted this with Edward and Sophie and William and Catherine, who lived together before marriage, allowing the women to observe royal life.
'Meghan was not afforded that time – and perhaps if they lived together for a few years, Meghan would have had more time to observe,' Koenig added. Harry married Meghan in 2018, and the couple stepped down as senior royals in 2020, now living in Montecito, California, with their children Archie and Lilibet.
