Prince Harry has revealed what he actually does for a living since stepping away from his royal duties, listing multiple roles that he does on a regular basis. In a recent appearance on The Traitors star Joe Marler’s podcast, Joe Marler Will See You Now, the Duke of Sussex was asked for his full name and occupation in a mock therapy session.
“Henry Albert Charles David, or H for short,” he answered, referring to one of the affectionate nicknames used by his wife, who also uses “Haz” as a term of endearment. Ticking off his list of occupations, Harry added: “Full-time dad. British Army veteran. Prince of England. Duke. But for today, I don’t know. What do you want?”
Invictus Games and Podcast Highlights
Marler also suggested that Harry add the title “inventor” of the Invictus Games to his occupation list, but the Duke said “founder” would be more accurate. His appearance on Marler’s podcast marks the one-year countdown to the forthcoming Invictus Games, which will take place in Birmingham in 2027 - its first time in the UK since the first games were held in London in 2014.
The Invictus Games brings wounded, injured and sick military personnel, both serving and veterans, from all over the world to one location in an Olympics-style sporting event that aims to “demonstrate life beyond disability”. Harry founded the games in 2014 with the backing of then-Mayor of London Boris Johnson, the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the Ministry of Defence.
Lighthearted Moments and Family Insights
Elsewhere in the podcast, Marler asked the Duke: “If you could swap lives with one other famous Harry, just for one day, who would you choose out of Harry Styles, Harry Kane or Harry Potter?” Harry replied that he would want to be England football captain Kane for a day, but only “on a winning day”. “You don’t want to be Harry Kane on a losing day, do you?” he added.
The podcast was recorded and filmed before the England team reached the semi-finals of the World Cup, with Harry predicting that the trophy would be “coming home”. However, the royal’s prediction proved wrong when England was beaten by Argentina 2-1 on Wednesday in a devastating defeat.
Harry also opened up about being a “full-time dad” to his and Meghan’s children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lillibet, five, who were recently reunited with their grandfather, King Charles, for the first time in four years. He revealed that his mother, the late Princess Diana, used to hug both him and Prince William “as tight as possible” when they were children and that he now carries on doing the same with his own, especially after a difficult day.
“The resilience of kids is amazing and the way they view life is so incredibly refreshing,” he said. “And if a day is hard, one thing I will do is always squeeze my kids that extra, extra tight.”
Personal Grooming and Legal Update
Touching on his appearances, the Duke joked that he preferred his hair to be described as “auburn” rather than “ginger”. In terms of his grooming routine, Harry was blunt about keeping things simple: “S***, shave, shower”, adding that he “[trims] my beard every five or six days, just to keep it a little bit tidy”. He also acknowledged his balding head and said: “Nothing really happening on top, I get a hair cut, otherwise I try not to look at what’s happening.”
During his recent visit to the UK, the Duke suffered a blow when the claims he made against The Daily Mail’s publisher over alleged unlawful information gathering were dismissed by a High Court judge. Harry was one of seven people, including Sir Elton John, Baroness Doreen Lawrence, David Furnish, Liz Hurley, and Sadie Frost, who alleged acts including landline tapping and voicemail interception were used by private investigators, freelance journalists and staff at Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL). ANL strongly denied the claims. Following an 11-week trial in London, judge Mr Justice Nicklin said none of the group had proven the allegations of unlawful information gathering and dismissed all claims.
