Prince Harry reportedly refused to discuss three specific members of the Royal Family during a recent MasterClass, according to a source. The Duke of Sussex has been vocal about his relationship with the Firm in recent years, particularly in his 2023 memoir Spare. However, a source has claimed that Harry has limits on who he is willing to speak about, as tensions between family members continue.
Source claims subjects were off-limits
The source said: "Harry was willing to talk about Diana, grief and losing his mother. What he wasn’t willing to discuss was William, Catherine or Uncle Andrew. Those subjects were off-limits."
It comes as Harry recently opened up about his grief over the death of his mother, Princess Diana, as part of a grief mentoring MasterClass. The Duke sat down with Dr Mary Frances O'Connor, a grief specialist, to create a MasterClass focused on 'Building Resilience Through Loss'.
Harry's grief revelations
During the sit-down, Harry spoke about the challenges he faced while navigating the loss of his mother. He shared that he felt he "had to be sad to prove to her that [he] missed her," adding "Nobody told me joy was still allowed".
Princess Diana died on August 31, 1997, following a high-speed car crash in Paris, France. Harry was just 12 years old when his mother died. He opened up about not being able to remember her laugh or what she looked like.
Harry was encouraged by the therapist to unlock his grief, as he revealed that he did not cry for almost 20 years after Diana's death. He added that the specialist urged him to find his mother's perfume to unlock memories of her. The Duke said the smell had brought back floods of emotions and memories that had been suppressed.
He said: "Spraying my mother's scent was almost like knocking certain bricks through so that I could see through and certain memories and experiences could start seeping back."
Anniversary approaching
A spokesperson for the prince confirmed that he was paid for the appearance, adding: "I'd encourage everyone to watch it before casting any judgement." They also said Harry should not be criticised for "speaking from the heart", according to the Daily Mail.
Next year will mark the 30th anniversary of Princess Diana's death. It is not known how the Royal Family will honour the anniversary. It has been reported that Harry could be planning to get involved in a documentary. It is likely that Prince William will mark it privately, spending the day with his wife, Princess Catherine, and their three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
