Prince Harry is "keen to move forward" with reconciliation with the Royal Family, according to a friend, who says he has returned to the UK with a "very different perspective" on things. The Duke of Sussex has spoken openly about his relationships with both the King and Prince William in a candid interview.
Harry's 'Different Perspective' After Returning to UK
A friend of Harry's told news.com.au that the intention of his interview was clear, as he hopes to send a message to the Royal Family that he is laying down his sword and has finished fighting. The friend said: "Harry's come back to the UK with a very different perspective on things, given everything that's happened since 2020. He's genuinely very keen to find a way to make things work here, he wants to be here, and part of that is rebuilding a relationship with the media … and in a way that works for everyone on all sides."
They continued: "There's just no point pretending the environment wasn't incredibly toxic before they left, but I think he's clearly now keen to move forward from that."
Interview with GQ Magazine
In the chat with GQ magazine for its One More Question series, filmed in New York City last month, Harry was asked if he is grieving due to his family feud. He said: "Yes, of course. I think from a family perspective - again, another massively relatable issue for so many people — sibling disagreements, broken relationships between kids and their parents, kids and one parent."
He added: "That continues to come up with me the whole time with people that I speak to, so I know how relatable it is. People maybe look at us and go, 'How are you gonna work it out? Maybe that will help me work my stuff out'."
Plea for Reconciliation
Harry, who has had a shaky relationship with his father and is understood to have not spoken to his older brother in over four years, said: "Some people don't want it to work out. I want it to work out." He continued: "With everything else that's going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile - that's the key point... scars stick around forever. But what your perception is, and what your mindset is to those things that have happened, letting go of the past. That's something that I would encourage everybody to do: If there's certain things from the past that are still affecting you every day, that's harder to let go of. But, for me, there's enough drama in the world and enough drama in people's lives to continue with issues with family."
A spokesman for Harry later said the comment of some people "not wanting it to work out" was not a swipe at William or any other member of the family and was made in a "general context".
