Prince Harry booed as Meghan's UK strategy unravels

Meghan Markle is reportedly keeping a low profile in the UK in an attempt to “create more interest” among the public, an insider has claimed. The Duchess of Sussex relocated back to Britain with her husband, Prince Harry, and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in August.

While Prince Harry has been seen at various UK engagements, he has not been joined once by his wife, Meghan Markle. On Friday night, Prince Harry stepped out to watch a rugby union match. Not everybody appeared happy to see the royal in the stand, as he was greeted with boos by some of the fans after he was shown on the big screen.

Strategy to Be Less Accessible

The only sighting of the Sussexes together has been as they walked hand in hand into a Cotswolds pub. Although it is believed Meghan’s lack of public appearances is down to her wanting to help children Archie and Lilibet settle into UK life, the insider has also said that there is a strategy at play here. That is to be “less accessible” in order to generate more public interest in her.

The source told Closer: “Meghan was advised a while ago to be less accessible because it creates more interest, so that’s the strategy she’s leaning into. She is deliberately biding her time and staying out of sight intentionally, but she’s also got plenty of things keeping her busy.”

“Between unpacking, getting the kids settled into their new routine and keeping her brand and all her other projects moving, she’s going from morning until late at night. When she does start stepping out more, the hope is that she’ll have built up enough anticipation that people will be excited to see her, rather than having her everywhere right away and the public getting sick of her.”

Upcoming Joint Appearance

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will appear together in Nottingham this week in their first joint public engagement since returning to the UK. It comes as part of efforts to position themselves as public figures rather than "private citizens", it is believed.

The Sussexes are expected to visit CRS Nottingham to watch an acting workshop before cooking with the Grenfell Hubb Community Kitchen women at a food bank, according to The Times. They're also expected to meet with Epic Partners, supporting young people in sport.

Security Concerns Raised

Royalists are tearing into Prince Harry after he attended a premiership rugby match on Friday night without his security in view. Frustrated viewers said the Duke appeared at ease without a bodyguard as he battles with the Home Office to reinstate taxpayer-funded security - a right usually granted to senior royals due to the risk attached to the highly public role.

Footage showed the Prince smiling as he found his seat to watch Leicester Tigers play Gloucester at the Mattioli Woods Welford Road stadium in Leicester, in a video shared on Instagram by PREM Rugby. He was photographed in the stands drinking a pint alongside Andrea Pinchen, Leicester Tigers' chief executive.
