Prince George arrived at Eton College on Tuesday, beginning his first term at the prestigious school. The 13-year-old future king was accompanied by his parents, Prince William and Princess Catherine, on the day he also became a full-time boarder, meaning he will now live away from home.
The move is likely to be emotional for William and Catherine, who are known for being hands-on parents. After George was filmed by the media arriving at the school, Kensington Palace released three new images of him in his classic Eton uniform, in which he appeared happy, smiling at the camera and looking confident.
Uncle's two-word tribute
The photographs also appeared to be special for his family, with his uncle James Middleton commenting on the social media post. Commenting just two words, James wrote: “Big day.” He accompanied this with a red heart emoji.
It is believed that, like the rest of the Middleton family, James is close with his young nephew and has been very present during his childhood, including on family holidays or time at the Middleton family home in Berkshire. George’s move to Eton may therefore not be emotional just for William and Catherine, but for the rest of the family too.
Visits home and privacy wish
While George will now be a boarder, he will be making frequent visits home to Forest Lodge in Windsor, including for weekend stays and in school holidays. The Prince and Princess of Wales’ wish is that George will now be left alone to complete his education without interference.
