Princess Anne is preparing for her son Peter Phillips' wedding to NHS nurse Harriet Sperling on 6 July 2026 at All Saints Church in Kemble, Cirencester. However, a key question remains: whether Harriet will be permitted to wear a tiara from the royal collection.
Unlike many royal brides, Harriet will not gain a royal title upon marriage, as Peter declined titles at birth. This was also the case for his first wife, Autumn Kelly, who nonetheless borrowed Princess Anne's Festoon Tiara for their 2008 wedding. The tiara, given to Anne in 1973 by the World-Wide Shipping Group, may again be an option.
Princess Anne herself wore Queen Mary's Fringe Tiara for her first wedding in 1973, borrowed from the Queen Mother. For her second marriage to Sir Timothy Laurence in 1992, she chose flowers instead. Her daughter Zara, also untitled, wore Princess Andrew's Meander Tiara, worth £280,000, at her 2011 wedding to Mike Tindall.
Other royal brides in the same generation, including Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie, and the Princess of Wales, have worn tiaras from the royal vault. Whether Harriet will follow suit remains to be seen, but precedent suggests it is possible.
