Michelle Obama has opened up about the challenges of raising daughters Malia and Sasha while in the public eye, describing it as 'the hardest thing in the world'. Speaking at a live taping of her podcast IMO with her brother Craig Robinson at SXSW London, the former first lady reflected on her career and family life.
Now 62, Michelle said this is likely her last professional chapter. 'I am 62 years old. We could be grandparents! But we are not,' she joked. She emphasised the importance of letting her children try new things, crediting her own parents for pushing her and her brother to pursue opportunities they themselves never had.
Michelle also spoke about the rapid passage of time since leaving the White House a decade ago. 'My daughters will be 28 and 25 this year. So this next chapter I want to be mindful about it, so that it doesn't just slip away,' she said. She added that her future choices will be for herself, not for her husband, children, or the country.
Offering advice to younger generations, Michelle urged them to 'learn to enjoy the process' and noted that reaching the White House required persistence and preparation for backlash. Her eldest daughter Malia, 27, is a filmmaker, while Sasha, 24, recently completed a master's degree. Michelle confessed that Malia prefers to keep her parents away from her work, saying, 'She doesn't want us around her stuff.'
