Newcastle United CEO David Hopkinson has paid a heartfelt tribute to Kevin Keegan after the legendary former player and manager passed away. The club has immediately lowered flags at St James' Park to half-mast and opened an area for fans to lay floral tributes.
Hopkinson's Emotional Message
In a statement, Hopkinson said: "Today is an incredibly sad day in the history of Newcastle United. Kevin Keegan was far more than a legendary player and manager. Plans for Tributes
The club has prepared an area at the South West corner of St. James' Park where fans can lay floral tributes and gather to remember Keegan. Flags at the stadium will fly at half-mast, and players across all teams will observe a minute's silence before their next training sessions.
Hopkinson also hinted at longer-term honors, saying the club will "carefully consider how best to honour his remarkable life and legacy both in the short and long term." This could include a statue or naming a stand after Keegan.

Hopkinson expressed condolences to Keegan's wife Jean, his family, and friends. "We know supporters will want to pay their own respects to Kevin in the coming days," he said.
The tribute concluded: "As we reflect on Kevin’s passing, we will also carefully consider how best to honour his remarkable life and legacy both in the short and long term. Today, however, we simply mourn the loss of a true giant of our history, and our thoughts are with everyone who loved him. Rest in peace, Kevin."
