Melania Trump has described her 2019 state visit to Buckingham Palace as “truly unforgettable”, sharing details of an “interesting conversation” she had with the then-Prince of Wales, now King Charles III. In her memoir, titled Melania, the former first lady recounted arriving in Marine One on the palace's “perfectly manicured grounds”, where she and President Donald Trump were welcomed by Charles and Camilla before meeting Queen Elizabeth II.
During the formal welcome, a gust of wind ruffled her hat, prompting an unscripted moment of laughter with the Queen and the Duchess of Cornwall. “It was a lighthearted and spontaneous moment in an otherwise formal and dignified occasion,” she wrote.
At the state banquet that evening, Melania was seated next to Charles. She recalled their conversation about his “deep-rooted commitment to environmental conservation”, noting that their paths had first crossed years earlier in New York City.
Six years later, in September 2025, the Trumps returned for another state visit. At a banquet in Windsor Castle's St George's Hall, President Trump paid tribute to the UK, calling the bond “priceless and eternal”. He praised King Charles as “a very, very special man” and highlighted the King's passions for the environment and architecture.
