Melania Trump Unveils 2025 White House Christmas Decor with Lego Portrait
Melania Trump reveals White House Christmas decorations

First Lady Melania Trump has officially revealed the White House's grand festive transformation for the 2025 holiday season, marking her highly anticipated return to the role following her husband Donald Trump's re-election.

A Grand Festive Vision Comes to Life

This year's elaborate Christmas display, themed "Home Is Where The Heart Is," was unveiled on Monday 1 December 2025. In an official statement, the theme was described as a reflection of "the enduring American spirit of generosity, patriotism, and gratitude." The statement further emphasised that the decorations serve as a reminder that "the heart of America is strong."

To execute this vision, the First Lady collaborated with designer Hervé Pierre and was assisted by 150 volunteers. The sheer scale of the decor is staggering, incorporating:

  • 51 Christmas trees
  • 10,000 blue butterflies
  • 25,000 feet of ribbon
  • 2,000 strands of lights
  • 2,800 gold stars
  • 700 feet of garland
  • 120 pounds of gingerbread
  • 75 classic wreaths

Room-by-Room Thematic Details

Each state room within the executive mansion has been given a distinct sub-theme. The Red Room is dedicated to celebrating young people and honours Melania Trump's Fostering the Future initiative, part of her broader Be Best campaign. It is adorned with thousands of the signature blue butterflies.

The Blue Room houses the official White House Christmas tree, which continues the long-standing tradition of featuring one ornament for each of the 50 US states. Notably, the East Wing, which previously housed the first tree visitors would see, was demolished in October as part of President Trump's plan to build a large ballroom.

In the Green Room, a playful toy theme takes centre stage. Among the displays are detailed Lego portraits of both George Washington and President Donald Trump, each crafted from more than 6,000 individual Lego pieces.

The East Room's tree features a special collar inscribed with "America 250," a direct tribute to the nation's upcoming 250th anniversary in 2026. Meanwhile, the State Dining Room showcases a detailed gingerbread replica of the White House, offering a glimpse into the currently decorated Yellow Oval Room in the private residence.

Contrast with Previous Criticism

The unveiling stands in contrast to the significant criticism Melania Trump faced for her holiday decor during the president's first term. Her 2018 display, which featured striking red trees, was widely panned by commentators, with some unflatteringly comparing it to being covered in blood.

Further controversy arose in 2020 when a leaked audio recording, provided to CNN by her former friend Stephanie Winston Wolkoff, captured the First Lady expressing frustration about her Christmas duties in 2018. "I'm working ... my a** off at Christmas stuff that you know, who gives a f*** about Christmas stuff and decoration?" she was heard saying, before adding, "But I need to do it, right?"

This year's extensive and meticulously planned display, previewed earlier by the First Lady in a gold-themed video, appears to be a concerted effort to redefine her holiday legacy at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
