Royal commentator Jennie Bond has issued a stark warning about Meghan Markle's rumoured return to the UK, suggesting it could turn into a public relations nightmare for the Duchess of Sussex.
Speaking candidly, Bond claimed that any attempt by Meghan to re-establish her presence in Britain would likely be met with scepticism and renewed scrutiny over her strained relationship with the Royal Family.
Why a UK Comeback Could Backfire
"The British public haven't forgotten the Oprah interview or the Netflix series," Bond remarked, referencing the Sussexes' controversial revelations about life as working royals. "There's still a lot of resentment, and Meghan would be walking into a hornet's nest."
The former BBC royal correspondent suggested that unless Meghan and Prince Harry can repair bridges with the monarchy, any high-profile appearances in the UK risk reinforcing negative perceptions.
The Palace Factor
Bond emphasised that without explicit support from Buckingham Palace, Meghan's activities in Britain would inevitably be viewed through the lens of ongoing royal tensions. "The optics would be terrible," she added. "Every gesture, every outfit choice would be overanalysed for signs of conflict."
This comes amid speculation that the Sussexes might consider a temporary UK stay to support various charitable causes they championed during their time as working royals.
Public Opinion Remains Divided
Recent polls suggest Britons remain sharply divided about the Sussexes, with younger demographics showing more sympathy than older generations who tend to side firmly with the monarchy. Bond argues this polarisation makes Meghan's position particularly precarious.
"She'd be facing crowds where for every well-wisher, there might be two sceptics," Bond predicted. "That's an incredibly difficult environment for anyone, let alone someone who's faced such intense media scrutiny."
While neither Meghan nor representatives have confirmed any imminent UK plans, Bond's comments highlight the complex challenges the Duchess would face in attempting a British comeback.
