The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will make their first joint appearance in Nottingham today since their move back to the UK. The couple will visit three charitable engagements in the city, despite no longer being working royals.
It will be the first public engagement Meghan has undertaken since the move back to the UK at the end of August, and the first time in four years that she has appeared at a public event in the UK. With her popularity amongst British citizens remaining at rock bottom, their trip to Nottingham is not without risks.
Duchess 'up for it'
However, the duchess is said to be ready to "stick her head above the parapet". A friend of Meghan's told Hello! magazine: "She's up for it. There are still causes and there are still issues that Meghan is really passionate about supporting, and Nottingham is one of those."
The Sussexes will visit the city's Community Recording Studio (CRS), food poverty community action group Himmah Hub, and Epic Partners, which supports young people through sports programmes and mentoring.
Public figures status
The duke and duchess are said to consider themselves "public figures" and were caught off-guard by a letter from the King clarifying that they remain "private citizens" and do not represent the Firm.
Our Royal Editor is in the city covering the engagements and will provide all the latest updates as they happen.
