Celebrity chef José Andrés has spoken warmly of his friendship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, revealing that the couple prioritises checking in on loved ones during difficult times. In an interview with PEOPLE, the 56-year-old founder of World Central Kitchen said Meghan and Harry frequently text or call during disasters, asking, “What can we do here and can we help you?” He added, “Nobody finds out about those moments, and they do it often, all the time.”
Andrés, who appeared on Meghan’s Netflix series With Love, Meghan, also shared a glimpse into the family’s home life. He described how the couple use their kitchen as a central “meeting place” – much like “any other family”. He praised Meghan’s interactions with her children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, saying, “I love how Meghan interacts with her children and food.”
The chef emphasised that despite their public profile, the Sussexes are relatable. “When we see each other or when we have conversations, we talk about what everybody else talks about, right? Life, family, good times, new dish, new restaurant.” He previously called the couple a “blessing” and noted they “always show up” when needed.
Meghan and Harry first connected with Andrés in 2020 when Archewell partnered with World Central Kitchen. The collaboration has since expanded to support wildfire victims in California, as well as providing aid to families in Ukraine and Gaza. World Central Kitchen was the first partner of Archewell Philanthropies.
