The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended a glitzy fundraiser in Canada to support their friend David Foster's charity, the David Foster Foundation, marking its 40th anniversary. Meghan Markle shared behind-the-scenes footage on Instagram, showing the couple walking through a corridor lined with pipers and drummers in traditional kilts.
A Night of Music and Memories
In the video, Meghan joked, “My husband loves bagpipes!” and added, “Oh my god, this is amazing!” Harry quipped with the musicians, asking, “Where are mine?” before correcting himself to acknowledge the “pipes and drums.” The clip also featured a plate with an edible piano and musical notes, along with the evening's programme.
Meghan also posted a selfie of the couple, showing her in an elegant black one-shoulder gown by Canadian designer Greta Constantine, with her signature slicked-back bun and diamond earrings that once belonged to Princess Diana. Harry wore a tuxedo for the formal event.
Supporting a Cause Close to Home
David Foster founded the organization in 1986 to provide financial support for Canadian families with children needing life-saving organ transplants and to raise awareness about organ donation in Canada and the US. The Sussexes posed with Foster, a 16-time Grammy winner, and his wife Katharine McPhee during a photocall outside the event.
Foster and McPhee have been friends with the couple for years. In 2019, Foster arranged for Harry and Meghan to stay at a friend's mansion on Vancouver Island, saying at the time, “I felt honoured that I was able to help Meghan there because I'm a Canadian, and we're a Commonwealth country – we're the Crown's. It's important to us, so I grew up with that kind of sentiment. I was really happy to be able to help them to find a respite just to take a little time off.”
McPhee, who attended school with Meghan, told Access Hollywood in 2020 that her husband and Harry had a “really, really beautiful relationship.” She added, “They're so cute. They're like father and son. We just stay in touch with them [the Sussexes]. But mostly, Meghan and I knew each other from childhood, but really Harry and my husband are friends. It's really nice.”
A Royal Reunion
This appearance marked Harry and Meghan's first joint public event since their family trip to the UK last month, where they reunited with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove in a private meeting. While Harry was in the UK promoting the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham, he was joined by his wife and children. It is believed they also visited Althorp, where Princess Diana is buried, and a remote Scottish island.
