The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are set to return to the UK within days, with their children already enrolled in a British school for the new term in September. Meghan Markle will reportedly "come and go," as she is said to be planning to split her time between the UK and California.
It remains unclear how long the couple will reside in the UK, although Meghan is said not to have her heart set on spending all of her time there. According to friends, she will also "need" to spend time back in California.
Meghan's US commitments
According to the Daily Mail, a friend said, "Meghan will need to spend quite a bit of time in the US. She can’t just dial in, she will need to be there."
The couple first moved to the US in 2020, just weeks after announcing their plans to step down as senior working royals. Speaking of their move, it has been revealed that they could be here for an "extended period", with a source revealing, "It could be six months, it could be a year, it could be more. I don’t think even they know yet. They might suddenly go, 'Why don’t we try Canada for a while? Why don’t we try Australia?'"
Royal awareness and schooling
Although reports suggested that the King was only officially told of the couple's plans just days before they were made public, he was, according to a friend of the Sussexes, aware that Harry and Meghan were considering returning. The friend said: "The King has been well aware of what Harry wanted for some time and on their visit in July he knows that they were looking around schools. William has also been aware for about six months. There is no question of anyone being 'blindsided'."
According to the publication, Prince Archie, now aged seven, will be a day pupil at his new school. Princess Lilibet, five, will attend the pre-prep, or infants’ school, at the same school as her older brother.
New home and future plans
The family's new home will be in or around the Cotswolds. According to reports, Meghan has agreed to move to the UK as she "believes she has to". According to celebrity journalist and gossip columnist Rob Shuter, Harry is "miserable in California". He wrote: "She does not want to lose Harry, and she knows something has to change."
