The Duchess of Sussex has offered a rare glimpse into her family's domestic life, revealing detailed preparations for their upcoming Thanksgiving celebration in California.
Harry's Non-Negotiable Holiday Demand
In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Meghan Markle disclosed that one culinary item is absolutely essential for her husband, Prince Harry. "Served with creamy mashed potatoes, a green salad speckled with flower sprinkles and rich gravy (my husband would never forgive me if I didn't add that to the table)," the Duchess revealed. This intimate detail highlights the couple's personal traditions at their £24 million Montecito home.
Meghan's Expert Hosting Strategy
The 44-year-old former actress shared comprehensive advice for creating the perfect holiday gathering. She emphasised advance preparation, suggesting hosts "chop your veggies and herbs in advance to save time on the day." Meghan, mother to six-year-old Prince Archie and four-year-old Princess Lilibet, also encourages involving children in the preparations, noting they can "proudly say they helped."
Her innovative culinary tip involves transforming carrot tops into a refreshing pesto by blending them with "parmesan, olive oil and pine nuts to elevate your holiday spread."
Creating the Perfect Ambience
The lifestyle brand founder detailed her approach to atmosphere, recommending strategically placed candles throughout the home. "Light a few candles - choose scented ones to set the mood in the living areas and unscented for the kitchen," Meghan explained, adding that in culinary spaces, "let the fragrance of the food shine."
For guest arrivals, she suggests having "drinks and some easy appetisers ready to enjoy," specifically mentioning baked Brie with jam. To facilitate conversation, Meghan recommends setting out "ice breakers, like puzzles or board games, to spark conversation and help guests connect."
The Duchess, who showcases her hosting skills in her Netflix series With Love, Meghan, stated that anticipating guests' needs is crucial, a skill she "learnt working in restaurants and now love bringing into my own home."
Perhaps most refreshingly, Meghan advocates for accepting help when offered. "You don't get the gold star for doing everything," she remarked practically. "Whether someone wants to bring a pie, pick up a side dish, or provide the ice cream, letting your guests contribute lightens your load and creates a sense of shared celebration."
She even suggests thoughtful post-celebration support, like bringing "a mason jar of homemade granola" for the host the next morning. The Duchess's holiday special, With Love, Meghan: Holiday Celebration, is scheduled to premiere on December 3 on Netflix.
