Meghan Markle reportedly left a hotel guest speechless after complaining at a Soho House club in Istanbul. The Duchess of Sussex was no stranger to attending A-list events even before her marriage to Prince Harry in 2018.
Meghan had an established acting career in Hollywood and would regularly attend events with the crème de la crème of showbiz from around the world. One such instance allegedly took place in 2015, when the now-Duchess of Sussex attended a weekend celebration in Turkey to mark the opening of Soho House Istanbul.
Weekend celebration details
According to the Daily Mail's columnist Sarah Vine, the weekend was filled with glam and attended by many Hollywood stars, including Eddie Redmayne, Jamie Dornan, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Claudia Winkleman and Paloma Faith. Many of those guests stayed at the new hotel at the recently restored Palazzo Corpi.
According to the columnist, a guest close to her revealed that they recalled seeing Meghan Markle for the first time. They described her as a “very pretty American woman” who “strode up” to the front desk and “berated staff” about a problem in her room.
Guest's recollection
Ms Vine wrote: “My friend couldn’t quite catch the details, but the general gist seemed to be that she was unhappy with the quality of her goodie bag, which she felt was insufficiently lavish in its largesse.
“My friend remembers thinking, ‘Wow, it takes quite some chutzpah to complain about a free gift at a free weekend in a five-star hotel full of A-listers.’ At the time, he had no idea who the angry American was – nor, he recalls, did anyone else in his group.”
But he realised who it really was a year later, when Meghan’s relationship with the Duke of Sussex hit the papers.

Ms Vine added: “I’ve never forgotten that anecdote, because it always seemed to me that, given the way things turned out, it was pretty telling.
“In fact, in many ways it reflects Meghan’s attitude to the Royal Family as a whole: she was treated with generosity and kindness, offered all the trappings and the status – but somehow none of it was ever quite enough.”
